Glen Dance Company Performs to Support Dancers with Cancer
Glen Dance Studio located in Park Plaza shopping center in Old Brookville has been providing dance classes for all ages for the past 25 years on the North Shore. They have a long history of giving back to the community and helping with worthwhile causes. This year the company dancers, ranging in age from 7 to 17, will be putting on a showcase performance to benefit Dancers Against Cancer. The showcase will be held on Friday March 6th at the Long Island School for the Arts at 7:30 PM. Tickets are general admission, $20.00 each. Director Kim Leary says, “I believe it is important to teach young dancers to use their talents to make a difference. Trophies and applause are nice, but being able to help another person is what these dancers will remember forever. The dancers have worked really hard and are excited to perform.” The “I’m A Dancer Against Cancer” campaign was founded in 2012 in a response to the loss of a young dancer from cancer. Since then, it has become a beacon of hope in the dance community, uniting dancers all over the nation. In 2014, Dancers Against Cancer became an official 501(c) 3 to continue to provide financial assistance to dance educators, dancers and family members impacted by cancer. To date, DAC has proudly raised over 2 MILLION dollars in donations that directly benefit those in need. If Glen Dance company can raise $1,000 to donate to Dancers Against Cancer they will be given the honor of becoming and official Hope Studio. The company will be holding raffles at the performance. All the proceeds from the raffles and concessions will go directly to the cause. The performance will include an eclectic variety of styles choreographed by 7 different choreographers including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary. Please join us and help the dancer achieve their goal of becoming a Hope Studio!
