TIEGERMAN PARTNERS WITH GIRL SCOUTS FOR SIDEWALK LIBRARY AT TIEGERMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL Sidewalk Library to encourage reading in our local communities.
GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – January 24, 2020 On Friday, January 24th, Girl Scout Troop 1420 and Tiegerman unveiled a Sidewalk Library in front of Tiegerman Middle School, located at 27 Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Cove. The purpose and goal of the Sidewalk Library installation is to increase reading and literacy, sharing the love and passion for books and reading with our local communities.
Through this installation, the hope is to express the importance of books and reading, while also engaging community members and students to donate and exchange books with others. “Literacy is so important, especially among young people, and we hope that this Sidewalk Library will encourage more children to read and keep reading,” shared Dr. Jeremy Tiegerman, Program Director, “We thank the Girl Scouts for sharing our passion for books and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
Among the crowd were members of Girl Scout Troop 1420, Tiegerman Middle School Principal Kristen Lyons, and Tiegerman Student Council representatives, Tiegerman Board Member Toya Davis, Program Director Dr. Jeremy Tiegerman, Tiegerman Fund Development Director Jamé Krauter, Glen Cove Councilwoman Marsha Silverman, Glen Cove Councilwoman Eve Lupenko, and Glen Cove Deputy Mayor Maureen Basdavanos, Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke and the Lisa Cohn, President of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce and members.
Mayor Tim Tenke spoke on our efforts: “I couldn’t have imagined a better organization for the Girl Scouts have partnered with, Tiegerman, a school that is such a large part of our community, to install a Sidewalk Library so that more kids have access to reading.” By doing this, it will further push the narrative of how much of a difference and impact a book can make on a child’s life, while also providing more accessibility to those who do not have access to a library or book store.
The Sidewalk Library is already stocked full of books, ready to be shared with the Glen Cove community. Books inside of the Sidewalk Library are FREE to all throughout the Glen Cove community, and will be filled with books tailored to children. The reader can choose if they would like to return or keep the book they take out, and can also donate a book at any time. Tiegerman greatly looks forward to working with the Girl Scouts to keep our Sidewalk Library plentiful at all times.
